After 11 months of being here, I decided to do a very small reflection.
When I first arrived, I didn't have any expectations or goals I'd like to achieve. Matter of fact, the main reason I left Twitter is because of all the bots that followed me and how I almost never got any real interaction.
Over time, things got a little rocky here and it seemed as though, personally, I wasn't going to be enjoying it any further at that time and contemplating shutting the instance down completely and just "disappearing".
However, several months on from that, I'm VERY glad I didn't. I like it here and I like having my "own little space" where nobody can tell me what I can and cannot discuss nor what I can and cannot see.
Something I've just recently realized though, is how important a good bit of you have become to me, personally and my Fedi experience would be very lacking without some of you here. What I didn't expect, was getting that same sentiment back when I discussed it with those few of you. I really appreciate knowing that for some of you, I have been consistently a "good" addition to your timelines and everyday online life.
Those types of comments and feelings they give me, keep me here and sane on those wilder days. To each and every one of you that have followed me for so long, through all the craziness, slight drama, wild opinions, and more, THANK YOU.
If I hadn't been almost universally accepted with such open arms and returned the same energy I try to put out, then I doubt I would still be here to this day.
I'm 11 months in and I think I'm ready to "give back" to those few folks that I consider friends and am on the cusps of creating something new and hopefully something good for Fedi as a whole.
I'm going to keep it very limited for specific reasons I'll lay out later. But, this is new ground for me and I have to figure some things out and hopefully not make too many missteps and learn some things along the way.
Thank you Fedi. I wouldn't be who I am right now, without you.

Working on some new presentation abstracts.
One topic I'm particularly interested in is versioning and how to evaluate a project with healthy versioning vs projects that have versioning that will make your life hell.
So, this talk would go over projects where they intentionally stay below 1.0.0 for 10 years, have breaking or license changes in minor or patch versions. and un-versioned documentation. Stuff like that.
What term fits best?

Soooo....I'm doing a thing...🤭😏
As a lot of you know, Tooters shut down recently and the way it was handled in the end is regrettable.
However, I felt for longest time while it was up, that it was consistently one of the BEST run instances on Fedi with how they protected their users from some of the insanity that happens here.
That being said, with Tooters being gone, it leaves a bit of a hole in my Fedi heart and I know a lot of others as well.
So, I'm creating a new, very limited for now, politically-light (as little politics as possible locally), AI friendly (AI art welcome), Sharkey instance for some folks within my circle that I've grown to consider my friends.
The Social Zone is meant to be a place to escape the very political society we currently all live in and just be social with one another about our hobbies, interests, and day to day lives.
I'm still working out all the details but when I launch it, it's going to be invite only because I'm new to something like this and I want to get it right. Especially because those I will invite are people that are close to me and I don't want to disappoint them.
Depending on how things go for the next few months, including if I can even get this thing started correctly, I MIGHT be open to allowing more members in, down the line.
But, this is just getting started. I registered the domain yesterday and just started researching Sharkey today and how hard it would be to spin something up. Then, of course, there's configuration settings and administration with Sharkey that I have to familiarize myself with.
All in all, I'm very nervous, but excited that I decided to take this next step in my Fedi adventure and hope to eventually "give back" to the entire community, the same positive energy that you've all given me over the past wonderful year of being on this amazing platform.
Please do not ask for invites. I will not be handing them out anytime soon. I've already asked about 5 of you along with some IRL folks and I feel I would like some time to get this right for them first.
Thanks for reading. I hope you understand why I'm choosing to do this and hope you're as excited as me to see where things can go and understand why I feel it's important to have these types of "politically-light" spaces so people can escape such topics from time to time.
Keep on keeping on, Fedi. The future is bright and I'm ready to learn along with you. More info about TheSocial.Zone coming soon!

Gold finger ring engraved with an image of Hermes. The broad oval bezel of this heavy gold ring is engraved with an intaglio showing the youthful messenger-god Hermes balancing on his left leg as he fastens a wing to his raised right foot. The god wears a short mantle that encircles his neck and hangs down his back. Winged sandals or boots are a standard attribute of Hermes, but it is unusual to find the wings attached to the figure's ankles rather than to some form of footwear.

This morning, the back-porch hummingbird feeder was empty, the porch floor was sticky, and there were muddy footprints all over the furniture and railing.

Happy Appomattox Day! Frederick Douglass has some strong words for remembering what the victory over the Confederacy meant.
We are sometimes asked, in the name of patriotism, to forget the merits of this fearful struggle, and to remember with equal admiration those who struck at the nation's life and those who struck to save it, those who fought for slavery and those who fought for liberty and justice.
I am no minister of malice. I would not strike the fallen. I would not repel the repentant; but may my right hand forget her cunning and my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth, if I forget the difference between the parties to that terrible, protracted, and bloody conflict.
...But we are not here to applaud manly courage, save as it has been displayed in a noble cause. We must never forget that victory to the rebellion meant death to the Republic."

Incredible profits on the power network today -- AUD $231 in 90 minutes.
Make money: Time-shift the sun.
This all reflects the support and reliability we're gifting the grid. The NSW power grid is in a week of crisis, with big "normal" power stations failing to help out when there are temporary problems with the link to Victoria, and seasonal lows in dinner-time wind solar.
(I just wish TV news — especially ABC News — would stop discussing nuclear since it…

Screenshot of my Amber Electric app, showing earnings for today (only) exceeding AUD $231.

This was on 17.8 kilowatt-hours of grid imports, and 22.2 kilowatt-hours of grid exports. The difference is accounted for by solar generation exceeding home use, but the earnings is accounted for by the time-of-day pricing of electricity.

Power at dinner time is worth (and in demand) a lot more than power at lunch time, when the sun shines freely.

The sun is still powering dinner, but I get to make so…

A two-state solution? How about no states instead. "There is just no escaping the absolute inadequacy of statism and nationalism for resolving questions of social justice. Here the Anarchist tradition has an old proposal that looks much more promising. The Anarchists thought that nation-states should be replaced by federations of regional assemblies." Content warning: Rafah — The Final Safezone

This safezone turned refugee camp is now under attack again, and 100.000 people already have to flee by orders of the Israeli military. Far more will have to flee soon, which in most cases won't be their first displacement in this conflict alone. Over 1.000.000 people have arrived in Rafah, hoping to be safe from Israel's bombardment there.

Sometimes I read an article twice, this was such an article, explains why also in 2024 we don't fully understand LLMs , they are not "just statistics" as some argue, simply because some aspects with regard to generalisation and over fitting seem to work differently. Working on those models is still "more alchemy then chemistry".

Facebook parent company Meta’s policies ban the sale, purchase, or exchange of accounts.
But TTP found multiple Facebook users selling accounts they said are authorized to advertise on politics and election issues in India.
